There was less attention paid to fine particulate emissions then. Today we are beginning to realize that fine particulates create significant health problem. There are fine particulate emissions associated with both oil and natural gas fired electrical power generation.

It is likely that there is a mortality rate associated with watyer pollution, but that was unexplored in the 1970's when my father was doing his research. You ought to recall that when my father began in the early 1970's to investigate the risk of radon in the home, that risk was almost completely unknown. A similar state of affairs existed for pollution associated with coal. 30 years later we have a more complete understanding of the pollution problem.

My father's calculations for transportation assumed that oil and gas moved primarily by pipeline, and there are seldom fatal accidents involving pipelines.

My purpose in posting my father's paper here was not to present a complete picture of deaths associated with coal generated electricity, and other power sources, but to document my fathers pioneering efforts in the field.Charles Bartonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01125297013064527425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7597656451205429515.post-58879210774114964272008-02-11T10:56:00.000-06:002008-02-11T10:56:00.000-06:00Charles,Does air pollution from the plants go unde...Charles,

Does air pollution from the plants go under general public electricity generation ?

Also, would there not be some deaths from air pollution related to using oil and natural gas as power sources ?

Where would the water pollution deaths go ? ie. mercury and arsenic related deaths.

Also, the transportation deaths should also consider fine particles from diesel

coal goes for a double whammy as usual. I am definitely going to keep this one to point to in the future when I am arguing with those who worry about the health effects of nuclear power.

Thanks for putting it up.DV8 2XLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14595060432772287143noreply@blogger.com
