My tan mini-van with the all wheel drive was a bit old in the tooth so I decided that it was time to find a vehicle that provided better fuel economy. I happened to be lucky enough to visit a local VW dealer where one of the salesman was a green card carrying European.

He told me that if fuel economy was one of my primary decision points - it was - I should look at the Jetta TDI that he had around back. For many reasons, diesels have not been very attractive for Americans.

I have been extremely satisfied with that decision - the TDI has averaged more than 45 Miles per gallon ever since. I ended up replacing the 2001 TDI with a 2002 model after an unfortunate test of the physical principle of the inability of two objects to be in the same space at the same time.

Since 2001, I have driven approximately 200,000 diesel powered miles. Many of the trips were simple commutes, but I have also seen a whole lot of the country in what my wife and I call our freedom machine.

Amazingly enough, I burn about as much fuel every year as I did before; I travel more miles while doing it.Rod Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03652375336090790205noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7597656451205429515.post-25774925427332606222007-12-30T15:59:00.000-06:002007-12-30T15:59:00.000-06:00After my ex-wife and I installed florescent bulbs,...After my ex-wife and I installed florescent bulbs, we saved a lot of electricity money. We added a lot of new light fixtures to increase the lighting of the house. We also turned the air conditioner lower, because we could afford the electricity. Our house was painted white, and we had a light colored roof. We also had shade trees that protected the house from the afternoon sun. We also bought a high efficient ac, an energy efficient refrigerator and washing and drying machines.

We also bought two PC's, and they drew a lot of power, Depite all the added electrical efficiency, our electrical usage did not drop.Charles Bartonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01125297013064527425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7597656451205429515.post-58277964918047255232007-12-30T15:35:00.000-06:002007-12-30T15:35:00.000-06:00Something as simple as painting your roof white wi...Something as simple as painting your roof white will cut the energy required to keep cool. Combining that with Jevon's paradox will result in bigger houses or lower thermostat settings.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
