A Plowshare approach to the gulf oil leak

Please don't see this as a criticism of the U.S., because I'm sure it would be the same story in any other Western nation.

Do you think that this solution would ever make it past the politics and bureaucracy that would attend such an attempt? I know that this idea has been on the books in the US since the beginning of the Project Plowshare program, but I have a feeling that the dithering and the posturing and the handwringing over this would go on for months before anyone made the call.

That is to say nothing of the litigation and baratry, that would go on by any number of 'interested parties.'

The Soviet equivalent to the plowshares programme was called "nuclear explosions for the national economy".

It would be nice to get two birds with one stone and test out the RRW while shutting of the oil leak. We haven't had a live test since Bush 41's presidency.
