Return from the Jaws of death

My failure to post during the last three months has been due to serious health problems. I was hospitalized in late November. During a heart procedure my heart stopped beating. It was shocked back to life, but then a lung collaspsed and my life was again threatened. A trache procedure was performed, and once again I was snatched from the jaws of death. I suppose if you die twice you become a candidate to be a Zombie! However my rehabilitation so far has not included bitting pe0ple.

I spent 10 days in a coma, and then a month flat on my back. I have now been in rehabilitation for nearly a month, and although I have a lot of problems, I am making trurly amazing progress.

I attribute my survival to two things. The first is my love for my wife Becky, sand her love for me. The second is to continue to tell the MSR/LFTR STORY. I believe that the MSR is of great importance for the future of human society and that this needs to be explained over and over until people grasp the concept. Telling the story is my missi0n, and I need to live in order to continue to do so untill the message is heard.

Welcome back, Charles. I'm sorry to hear about the health problems, and am glad you re back on your feet. I'd noticed you hadn't posted for a while, and wondered what had happened to you.

I, for one, am very much looking forward to hearing more from you about the MSR and LFTR, and am very glad you are here to tell more of the tale.

Take good care of yourself

I have missed your blog.
I am so happy to hear you are doing better!

Thank you for your efforts in educating people.

Your blog was the first time I had heard of MSRs. Since that first time, I have become involved in spreading the knowledge about MSRs and the need for nuclear power to avert climate change.

From Charles Barton's blog post - "I attribute my survival to two things. The first is my love for my wife Becky, sand her love for me. The second is to continue to tell the MSR/LFTR STORY. I believe that the MSR is of great importance for the future of human society and that this needs to be explained over and over until people grasp the concept."
Wonderful words, Charles. I am grateful that you were able to make this post on Nuclear Green Revolution.
I hope you continue to gather strength and are soon returned to full health.

Best Wishes on a continued recovery. Yours was the first site where I read about the LFTR and I couldn't stop talking to friends about it. I have a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry and found the article you had written compelling. I continued to educate myself (as time permits) and have never changed my opinion that this is a great technology.

Charles,
Congratulations my dear Colleague on coming back to the Living to persevere with the best way to burn Thorium (and any other fissile)!

While you were recuperating and while you're still gathering strength & additional thoughts, see the Strategy that TEA leaders have been carrying out in Washington & elsewhere for our Energy (and Economic) Future:

Bravo, Charles. Your voice is extremely important in a world where irrational fear of nuclear energy is amplified by fossil fuel corporate interests and by the unenlightened section of Greens. In particular, it seems that promotion of molten salt technology as a killer app for reversing anthropogenic global warming is an excellent avenue to get through to the mistaken section of Greens. I know of no other essayist that excels at this crucial task as much as you do. You are loved by many.

Wow! Charles, I had no idea things had gotten that bad for you and your family. My prayers are with you and I hope that progress towards recovery continues to progress and keep fighting.

You're commitment is amazing. I hope the rest of nuclear bloggers and supporters take notice. If Charles can fight back from death's door twice how much more can we all be doing to create a sustainable nuclear powered future?

What an ordeal you've been through! I'm glad to see that you're posting again. Doesn't seem to be much news lately concerning MSR/LFTR.

Charles, I am glad to hear that you are on-the-mend. I have missed reading your blog.

Best wishes for a continued recovery.

Also Charles, in case you missed it... there is a new book out describing the IFR breeder reactor design ("Plentiful Energy"), written by a couple of the key people from Argonne Labs. I'm only half done reading it, but it sounds like they really did resolve most of the issues with the old Clinch River design. I bet they'd work really well in a mixed fleet with LFTRs or DMSRs.

Barry Brooks describes it here: http://bravenewclimate.com/2012/01/08/nuclear-fission-flyer/

Charles,
I was worried when you stopped posting but I'm pleased to hear that you are now recovering rapidly from such a serious illness. I hope that you continue to improve, and get back to full health, so that you can soon post some more excellent material like the Sherrell Greene interview.

Well, it was heart rending to hear of brush with mortality, but fantastic to hear you've made it back. I've been following the MSR movement and this blog for some time, and, as a layman, it makes me feel quite optimistic. You're doing great and important work here, but don't rush it. We'll all be waiting for you, in the mean time, just get better. Best wishes to your wife Becky, your friends and family, and, of course, your good self.

Welcome back Charles, good to see you've still got some electron-volts in you, hope you are recovering further.

So I have to ask. Was there any light at the end of the tunnel? Or just pitch black?

Cheers, Cyril.
